Learning Muscles

During week 1 Rooms 20 & 21 have discussed what learning muscles are.  As a team we will be looking to grow and train these muscles throughout our learning journey this year.

So, what are learning muscles???

Our learning muscles are positive learning skills that we all have within us.

These learning muscles can be trained just like muscles in the gym.

Here are the four different learning muscles we looked at.

Resilience:

Managing Distractions - “Managing our distractions” to help us focus and concentrate

Noticing - Noticing' when my learning is not going well so I can do something about it

Perseverance - Persevering', so not giving up when learning becomes 'tricky'

Relating:

Collaboration - to be able to work with other as part of a team and share ideas

Interdependence – To be confident working independently and collaboratively

Empathy and Listening – Its difficult to understand how someone else feels if you don’t truly listen to them

Imitation – To learn from each other

Reflectiveness:

Planning - Think about what you want to get out of learning.

Revising - Are ready to revise and be flexible with your plans as your learning progresses.

Distilling - Draw out useful lessons from experiences you have had before.

Meta-learning - Are interested in how you learn as an individual and can talk about what skills you need to make progress.

Resourcefulness:

Questioning – To be curious about things, to ask yourself, why?, what if?

Making Links – To be able to make connections between your learning, to use previous learning to help you with new learning

Imagining – to let your mind explore and play with possibilities and ideas, to build up stories from simple ideas

Reasoning – To create a logical argument for ideas for and against.
